DIANA MAGALLON
BIO
Diana finds it awkward to write about herself, so here are a few things that you may find interesting about her in point form:
- she was born in Mexico City and lived there for a total of 12 years
- both her grandfathers were painters, though only one of them earned his living that way
- her parents are self-taught musicians, and consequently exposed her to a lot of music, which a huge component in her work
- she has been drawing/painting/doodling since she could hold a pencil/brush
- she received failing grades in art in elementary school and won top student awards in both art and photography high school…go figure
- she has a BFA in Theatre Production & Design from SFU, and worked as a stage manager for about 5 years
- making art is the thing that makes her forget to eat and lose all perspective of time, but she has tried to be sensible and devote her time to more stable things, like theatre
- she is weeks away from moving to Montreal for a life experiment (and freaking out about it)
- she is grateful and excited to be a part of this event
ARTIST STATEMENT
Diana does not have much to explain regarding her work, except to say that it is often tied to musical inspiration, so most of her titles provide hints (or obvious statements) about how they came to exist.
